Awesome Walls – 01/05/2014

As part of the first challenge on the Suas badge scheme the Unit visited Awesome Walls in Finglas to do some bouldering.

In Attendance:

Tony, Aoife, Jake, John, Adam, Matt and Paul

After a safety instruction from the staff at Awesome Walls the group got to try out the two levels of bouldering at the facility. The instruction from staff included how to use the bouldering routes, the different colour grades and how they applied to rock climbing grades. We also learned how to fall onto the mats to prevent injury and how to avoid other climbers.

On the first level most members of the unit were able to get to grips with the green routes with some managing to finish some red and orange routes too.

The tutorial continued to the upper level where we learned how to spot other climbers to prevent more serious falls.

Everyone had a great time and some of them members of the group showed some real natural talent for climbing.

Action Items: We need numbers for the Kerry trip next week. People who haven’t paid subs must give us €20 next week.
